Children's Playgroup
The Children's Playgroup
is a program where children can interact with each other while learning valuable
social and developmental skills. The Children's Playgroup meets every 1st and
3rd Thursday of each month from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM in the Children's Center at ABVI-Goodwill. Children, age birth to five,
and their parents are welcome. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate.
The playgroup provides children who are blind or visually impaired with the opportunity to:
| • |
play with tactile puzzles |
| • |
read
braille or large print books |
| • |
listen to audio-described books on tape |
| • |
watch audio-described video tapes |
| • |
experiment
with the latest in computer technology
including speech & magnification
software |
| • |
interact with other young people with visual impairments |
| • |
participate in skill-building games |
| • |
and much more! |

In an effort to offer a truly holistic program, we provide networking opportunities
not only for children, but for their parents as well. Many parents with children
who are visually impaired don't interact with other parents experienceing the
same issues. The Children's Playgroup helps parents realize that they aren't
alone
and that there are parents with similiar experiences.
