Eligibility

To qualify for services from Reachout Radio an individual needs to be visually impaired, have a physical disability that prohibits the holding of printed material, or have a learning disability such as dyslexia. The service is also available for people who are temporarily disabled due to surgery or accident.

If you are not registered with the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (NYSCBVH), or the Library of Congress Talking Book Program, you must have a physician, nurse, social worker, rehabilitation counselor, or other qualified individual complete the Certification of Disability and return it to:

Multi-resident facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals, and group homes are also eligible to apply for WXXI Reachout Radio.

WXXI Reachout Radio receivers are tuned only to this service and there is no need for additional tuning. Receivers are available in either a table model, or a small portable model that operates on 4 "C" batteries. Applications are processed as receivers are available.
