ABVI-Goodwill Welcomes Congressman DanMaffei For Agency Visitand TourCongressman Maffei

Rochester, NY (February 26) —The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI)-Goodwill Industries of Greater Rochester, Inc. recently welcomed Representative Dan Maffei to the agency for
a visit and tour.

Rep. Maffei (NY-25) toured the agency’s manufacturing division, vision rehabilitation center and call center operations, along with meeting employees working in those areas who are blind or visually impaired.  As a first-term Congressman, Rep. Maffei enjoyed a first-hand look at the depth and breadth of programs, services and employment opportunities provided by ABVI-Goodwill to people who are blind or visually impaired, including many of his constituents in the 25th Congressional District.

“After touring ABVI-Goodwill and its call center, I have a great understanding and appreciation for all of the work ABVI does for the community,” said Rep. Maffei.  “The manufacturing, training, counseling facilities, and call center provide an unmatched and unique opportunity for the blind and visually impaired.  The services they provide to the community as a whole reaches far beyond the Rochester region, and I look forward to working alongside ABVI-Goodwill and our community leaders to continue the organization’s success.”

In addition to the tour, ABVI-Goodwill had the opportunity to speak with the Congressman about several issues of importance to the future of the agency, including the agency’s plans to continue to grow its Goodwill retail operations into new communities, as well as the need to expand and enhance vision rehabilitation and low vision services to meet a rapidly increasing need for these programs.

“It was an honor to host this tour and showcase the world-class services we are providing at ABVI-Goodwill and the employment opportunities we are creating on a regular basis,” said Dr. A. Gidget Hopf, President and CEO of ABVI-Goodwill. “It was inspiring to hear the level of commitment Congressman Maffei expressed for people of all ages with disabilities, and particularly for efforts to create and maintain jobs and expand services for these individuals.”
